It may be an ambition of many courses, but few have what it takes to host a European Tour event. Even less do it shortly after opening, but that’s exactly what happened at Finca Cortesin; a new, luxury resort located an hour’s drive south of Malaga.
Surrounded by all the trappings of Spain’s saturated southern fringes, Finca Cortesin slipped under the radar when it opened in 2006 despite Cabell Robinson’s clever routing through two wide ravines. Its fortunes changed when it succeeded Wentworth in hosting the World Match Play Championship in October last year.
